PURPOSE The purpose of this committee is to provide a pastoral ministry to the congregation and assist the pastors in their ministry of care and concern. Seeking to serve the whole person, the committee’s work falls into three areas: the Spiritual, Emotional, and Physical. Spiritual Life Maintains a Prayer Chain to pray for others who have special needs, and provides learning opportunities for the congregation to deepen their spiritual life and to see the relationship between health and spirituality (see below). Emotional Life Through the Contact Person program, cares for those returning home from the hospital or suffering continued illness or therapy by providing meals, transportation to and from doctor visits (as needed), cards, and visits. Maintains a Bereavement Committee to provide receptions, on request, after funerals or assist with receptions in the home of the family. Send cards of sympathy and care in time of death and illness. Visits homebound members on a regular basis. Physical Life Maintains the Contact Person Program (see above). Maintains a lending closet of medical supplies such as crutches, walkers, wheel chairs, canes, and portable commodes. Supplies and maintains First Aid kits throughout the church and a defibrillator. Hosts an annual blood drive in May. Provides, through the Health Ministry Team, information and education programs for members on health and safety issues, including the relationship of health and spirituality.
